In 1923, there was a growing request for mixed or ‘continental style’ bathing. A public meeting decided that continental baths would be a beneficial amenity for the people of Wollongong. Funds were raised for the construction of these baths by the local community and council. The opening for the baths was organised by the Wollongong Swimming Club in 1926.
